Have Authority to Forgive Sins (Matthew 9:1-8)
God is gracious. He gave salvation to humankind out of love (Jn 3:16) and caused the Son to perform this working, namely Jesus Christ (Mt 9:5). The works of Jesus Christ are those of God (Jn 6:38-39) and God is the One who forgives the sins of humankind (Ps 103:3). When humans are not aware of this fact, there is no salvation for them. Their sins are invisible, whereas their diseases are visible; thus the visible diseases and the invisible sins are one. Therefore, if one¡¯s sins are forgiven, then one¡¯s diseases are cured; if one¡¯s diseases are cured, then the sins are forgiven (Mt 9:2) That is why Jesus said, ¡°Whomever sins you forgive, it will be forgiven him.¡± Thus the saints¡¯ authority to forgive sins is to perform healing (Jn 20:23).
¡Û Jesus¡¯ saying, ¡°Your sins are forgiven¡± equates to ¡°Your diseases are healed.¡± Therefore, healing and the forgiveness of sin are the same working. ¡Û Therefore, Jesus carried diseases means he carried sins.
¡Û Since men of the truth are spiritual, they must always have with them the authority both to forgive sins and to heal diseases.
¡Ø Let us be spiritual. Every one should have fully the authority to forgive sins and heal diseases.
