Being Persecuted For Righteousness' Sake (Matthew 5:1-10)
God is a jealous God. As He kept His self-respect to the extent of sacrificing the Son on the cross, this meant to vanquish all sorts of righteousness that are in the world, for what solely counts for God is to wield His own righteousness. He called men of Jesus the righteous signifying men who fight because of righteousness (Mk 10:30); and because Jesus suffered death for righteousness' sake (Jn 15:20), men of Jesus also are those who are persecuted for it (2 Co 12:10). Since he who is persecuted for the gospel of Jesus Christ and righteousness alone, and not for his lack of personal virtue, is the blessed one (Mt 5:12), this is God's promise. The Holy Spirit came for such a fulfillment.
¡Û He who is afraid of persecution does not know spiritual blessings. Let us not be afraid of persecution.
¡Û Because the gods that are in the world are all persecuting ones, they even persecute the Son of God
¡Û Heavenly blessings and persecution pair, thus God bestowed blessings in including persecution.
¡Ø Terrible persecution will persist throughout our journey in the world. This is the path of the cross.
