Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Many of the Jews believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men. / Acts. 17:11-12.

It is no exaggeration to say that the history of Seoul Sungrak Church is that of the Berea movement, which is based on the Will of God. Therefore, we must first know about this Berea movement and the Will of God.

Berea movement is to believe in Jesus' name, knowing the name's authority. It is to live a powerful life of faith in Jesus' name. Because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. The Berea movement insists that anyone who believes in Him can perform miracles just as the apostles in the early days of the churches and signs of Jesus name followed him. Therefore, this movement has the ideal and insistence of making 'the Will of God' the believer's faith, life, and spiritual power.
Significance of Berea movement
Sungrak church was established on November 30th, 1969. That day, Rev. Ki Dong Kim held founding services with just 7 members. According to the "World's 50 greatest churches" list, recorded in "The Almanac of the Christian World 1991~92" of America, Sungrak church is the greatest Baptist church in the world. In this almanac, the average number of members who attend Sunday service was recorded as 30.000, the 9th in the world.

What's the moving power of Sungrak church's growth, from 7 members, into the world's greatest Baptist church and one of the great International churches in a soon short period of time? Dr. John. N. Vaughan, an international expert of church growth studies, wrote "Absolutely Double"-a thesis on growth of Sungrak church- and mentioned that the motive power and the church growth are based on the Berea movement. "Nobody can deny that Sungrak church grew with Berea Movement which divine healing and casting out demons followed".

Rev. Ki Dong Kim, the originator of the Berea Movement, defines it as a faith movement to learn God's word with modest mind like this Bereans. First, it is a New Testament church movement. Second, it is a Bible resemblance movement. Third, it is a layman movement. Berea is a movement that insists the church resembles the New Testament, and saints resemble the church'. In a word, it is a 'Bible resemblance movement'.

Our duty for the new millennium is that the christian church should resemble the New Testament, and saints should resemble the church. Therefore, this Berea Movement has a mission to demonstrate a new direction for faith and theology in 2,000-year history of church. In other words, Berea Movement has a duty to expand the church of Christ, without limitin Christ's power and witness of Christ under the principle of 'freedom of faith', 'freedom of Bible', and 'freedom of theology'.
